THE Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet will come alive from Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th December 2018 as the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association plays host to Cricket West Indies (CWI) 4 Day Regional cricket match between Guyana Jaguars and Windward Islands Volcanoes.
The 4 day encounter will bowl off from 2.00 p.m. daily.
The Windward Islands selectors have named three newcomers to the 4 day first class set up in batsman Alick Athanaze, medium pace all-rounder Ryan John, and fast bowler Josh Thomas.
34 year old Kirt Edwards who played 17 Test matches for the West Indies between July 2011 and September 2014 and scored 986 runs at an average of 34.80 with a highest score of 121 will lead the Windward Islands Volcanoes this time around.
Experienced opening batsman, Devon Smith is unavailable for the first match in Saint Lucia for personal reasons. Playing for the Windward Islands in the 2017-18 Regional Four-Day Tournament, Smith scored 1095 runs at an average of 84.23, with six hundreds in ten matches.
Right hand opening batsman Sunil Ambris and right arm fast bowler Shermon Lewis are unavailable as they are both on assignment with Windies senior men’s team in Bangladesh. The home team leads the Test match series 1-0.
Left arm fast medium bowler, Obed McCoy, right arm fast medium, Kesrick Williams, and all-rounder Kyle Mayers are recovering from injuries and were not considered for selection.
