THE Darren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet is expected to come alive on Thursday – after all, it’s home to the Saint Lucia Stars — and by all indications the team just can’t wait to be here to change their fortunes around in front of their home crowd.
This evening the Stars will play the Jamaica Tallawahs at Sabina Park.
Before the showdown between the Stars and Trinbago Knight Riders on Thursday 16th, tomorrow evening from 7pm at the Harbor Club in Gros Islet; Team Coaches and Captains will be on hand to share their expectations of the Saint Lucia Stars and opposing teams in the upcoming matches.
The Stars will then turn their attention to the Barbados Tridents when the two teams meet on Friday 17th.
On Tuesday 21st, the Stars will face Saint Kitts and Nevis patriots and Guyana Amazon Warriors on Friday 24th.
Their final match at home will be against the Jamaica Tallawahs on Saturday 25th — and what makes this one even more interesting is that Johnson Charles and Darren Sammy will be facing each other on their home ground, but representing competing teams.
The DSCG is named after Sammy and the western stand named after Johnson Charles. The Saint Lucian pubic and visitors alike will be hoping that the two Saint Lucian players will live up to expectations and give the patrons something to cheer about regardless which team wins, “It’s all in the Game”.
Charles has made his intention clear and has set himself a benchmark as he is looking to score at least 600 runs in this year’s edition of the tournament
The former West Indies opening batsman has not played for the Regional side since November 2016. He said, “Last year, I didn’t have the best of years, and so I am looking to get back up there in terms of runs because my main aim is to get the most runs in the tournament”.
On the pitch, in their opening match against Dwayne Bravo Trinbago Knight Riders, the Saint Lucia Stars were defeated by 100 runs; while in their second match against Guyana Amazon Warriors, they lost by four runs.
