Stars of Carnival Get Their Prizes (And Shine)

THE big winners from this year’s Carnival season were treated with a lively reception held at the Financial Administrative Centre at Pointe Seraphine last Saturday evening.

The event – dubbed “A Night With The Stars” – was hosted by Events Company of St. Lucia Inc. and Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) to present winners with their trophies and prize monies. However, it was also a moment to say thanks, reflect and give some insights into plans for next season.

After a hectic season that saw participants, sponsors and organizers racing against deadlines to plan and execute events to patrons’ liking, the evening seemed only fitting for the stars who contributed to the season’s bright shine.

There were calypsonians, pageant beauties, soca artistes, band members, music producers, sponsors and others on hand to take in some final memories of what the season had to offer.

In fact, Herb Black’s performance of “Suzette” (2008) was not only nostalgic but tempting enough to launch next year’s Carnival season on the spot!

Nerdy and Shemmy J – who placed second in this year’s Groovy Monarch – performed their season hit, “Bouncing”, much to the delight of especially the Carnival Queen Pageant contestants who proved that their dancing talents are still in check.

Stan Bishop began his career in journalism in March 2008 writing freelance for The VOICE newspaper for six weeks before being hired as a part-time journalist there when one of the company’s journalists was overseas on assignment.
