SAINT LUCIAare new champions of the Under-13 Netball Fiesta recently held in Dominica. The team played unbeaten throughout the tournament.
In their final game against Dominica Nationals, they won comfortably by 31-14, their biggest winning margin. They led in every quarter: 8-4, 17-6, 27-8 and 31-14.
Leading the way for Saint Lucia were Goal Shoot Dasha Eugene (27 from 33 attempts), Goal Attack ShernikaDamaze (3 from 7 attempts) and substitute Goal Attack Jania Gregg (1 from 3 attempts).
For Dominica, (GS) Casiana Joseph netted 1 from 2 attempts, (GA) Safiya McPherson 11 from 12 attempts and substitute (GS) Nyrella Joseph 2 from 3 attempts.
In the match, Saint Lucia had 37 attempts at goal to their opponents’ 17. However, while Saint Lucia shot an improved 83 percent, Dominica shot 82 percent, a clear indication that both teams stepped up while Saint Lucia’s attacking play was the dominant factor.
At the prizegiving ceremony, Saint Lucia picked up the championship trophy, Dasha Eugene was Most Accurate Shoot and GracyAlcide received the Team MVP and Best Defender Award.
