Saint Lucia To Host Zonal World Champs Qualifier

SAINT LUCIA will host the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Zonal World Championship Qualification Tournament scheduled for August 8-14, 2017.

Eight teams — Saint Lucia, French St. Maarten, Dutch Saint Maarten, Anguilla, Saint Kitts, Dominica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Antigua and Barbuda — will be participating as they attempt to qualify for the 2018 World Volleyball Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Saint Lucia Men’s Volleyball Team accepted an invitation to participate in a Friendly Tournament recently as a pre-competition warm-up for both national teams, Saint Lucia and Martinique. The games were of a high level but St. Lucia lost both games.

In the first encounter, Saint Lucia was defeated 3-0 while in the second matchup Saint Lucia was defeated in close sets by 3-1.

In Martinique, the team was captained by veteran player ServinMongroo and consisted of experienced senior as well as junior players.

Joseph Clercent had a magnificent performance throughout the games. The team was under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Terry Verdant and Assistant Coach Bernard President.

Verdant said he was satisfied with the performance of the team as this was their first outing. However, he noted that there is still a lot of work to be done in getting the players to play at a higher level.
