THE Government of Saint Lucia has thanked Martiniquan authorities for their quick response in providing assistance for persons injured in an explosion at a Cul de Sac Quarry on Tuesday.
A team from Martinique arrived in Saint Lucia early Wednesday morning and facilitated the air transfer of four injured persons for emergency treatment. Three people lost their lives in the incident.
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet on behalf of the government expressed thanks to our French neighbours, and especially to French Ambassador, Philippe Ardanaz, and his staff for their quick actions in providing assistance and for the continued support for Saint Lucia in times such as these.
The Prime Minister also commended the efforts of the staff of the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Port Authority (SLASPA) and the Victoria Hospital who are still working tirelessly to ensure the injured are attended to.
“The French authorities were so willing to assist us in our time of need and we are so thankful for the assistance that has been provided already,” stated Chastanet. “I must also again commend the emergency personnel, especially the staff at the Victoria Hospital. Please continue to pray for the families who are affected.”
Official investigations are continuing into the incident. The government has also arranged the provision of counselling support for affected families.
