THE Saint Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) on Monday presented three cheques amounting to EC$50, 266.75 to three national sports federations under its banner to continue with their respective programmes.
The Saint Lucia Netball Association received $20,376.75 to assist Team Saint Lucia to participate in the annual Jean Pierre Under-16 netball tournament scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago in April.
The Saint Lucia Table Tennis Association received $14, 890 to purchase airline tickets for Team Saint Lucia to participate in a Cadet/Junior Caribbean Table Tennis Championship in Guyana.
The Saint Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) received EC$15,000 towards the ongoing project to upgrade the National Boxing Gymnasium at Vigie.
SLOC President Fortuna Belrose said, “The SLOC is committed to sporting excellence and we have that responsibility to ensure we support those associations that are making strides that ensure Saint Lucia continues to be out there in the international arena. But, more importantly, working at the base to ensure that we continue to participate in events that are close to home.”
She added: “Over the last year the SLOC has spent over $1 million in providing support to enable our national sports federatons to meet their obligations at the local, regional and international levels. We will continue in that vein as a body committed to that thrust. What we really would like from our associations is to continue to produce the results.”
