‘Royal’ Renews Schols To Nine

THE Royal by Rex Resorts has renewed its commitment to the education of nine children of its employees. Since 2008, The Royal has been awarding scholarships to the children of staff who attain the highest mark in the annual Common Entrance Exams. Each scholarship is worth $1500 per year over a period of 5 years. To date, 14 scholarships have been awarded at a total value of $73,000.

On Monday, The Royal held a luncheon for its current scholarship recipients, some of whom are in their final year of secondary school. They are Kyle Serville, a Form 4 student of Castries Comprehensive, Christal Felix – Form 5 at St. Joseph’s Convent, Troy Joseph – Form 3 at Leon Hess Comprehensive, Sarafina Gabriel Form 5 at St. Joseph’s Convent, Lovell Polius – Form 4 at St. Mary’s College, Faithlyn Lewis – Form 3 at Sir Ira Simmons Secondary, and siblings Jade and Jada Alexander of Forms 5 and 2 respectively at Castries Comprehensive. It was also a special occasion for the newest scholarship awardee, 11-year-old Kirsandre Jn. Baptiste.

Kirsandre, who attended the Vide Bouteille Primary School, scored 86.67 % in this year’s Common Entrance Exams. That was the second highest score at Vide Boutielle Primary. Kirsandre was awarded the Science Trophy. His favourite subjects are mathematics and science. He will be attending the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School.

Kirsandre is the son of Housekeeping Supervisor, Cendra Jn. Baptiste, who has given 20 years of service to Rex Resorts. She is very proud of her son’s achievements thus far, and has high expectations for him. She expects him to make it all the way to university.

Ms. Jn. Baptiste expressed sincere thanks to The Royal for awarding her son a scholarship. She said it will “go a long way in helping with his school supplies” during his five years at Castries Comprehensive.

The luncheon was hosted by General Manager of The Royal,Richard Michelin, and the hotel’s Personnel Manager, Valerie St. Remy. Some of the students were accompanied by their parents. Following lunch, the students were given a tour of the property by Guest Services Manager, Marie Ann Johnny.

Michelin congratulated the scholarship awardees for their outstanding academic performance. He encouraged the students to continue to strive for excellence and make their parents proud. Michelin also commended the parents for the efforts and sacrifices they have made in contributing to the success of their children.
