IT was fun galore in the community of Micoud last week when the community held its carnival celebrations.

The activities brought to the fore the artistic ability of young people of the community who were well supported by residents.

One of the events was the parade of the bands which took place last Sunday in which five bands participated. Revellers had a rollicking time, dancing to the pulsating music from hi-fi’s. And they did so without moderation, as hips rotated until the sessions ended.

Earlier that day it was their J’ouvert which was also a blast. Revellers braved the inclement weather to have fun.

And according to Brenda Paul, chairperson of the Micoud Carnival Committee, the weather did not dampen the spirits of the revellers.

“The weather did not stop us from having great fun. We had a great time dancing all morning…” Paul said.

The previous day, Saturday, it was the power and groovy soca competition which had the audience in a foot-stomping mood. Both competitions were won by Mouvant, who dazzled the audience with impressive performance.

On Saturday also the Queen show took place, which also generated much excitement, as the young ladies in the community displayed out their artistic abilities. At the end of the competition it was Queen Alexander, who represented Bounty Rum, who reigned supreme.

Commenting on the general outcome of the activities, Paul said : “ The events were better than last year. It’s a long time since we last had such a carnival. We had more activities than last year and the crowd supported all of them.”
