RODNEY Bay’s Island Mix came to life last Thursday as lovers of music and art came to support the monthly koudmen initiative dedicated to Francis ‘Leebo’ de Lima – the well-known music producer recently diagnosed with cancer.
The event showcased performances by popular artistes including Boo Hinkson, Ken Hardy, Semi Francis, NintusMagre, Sherwinn ‘Dupes’ Brice, Linda ‘Chocolate’ Berthier and visiting artiste from the U.S Pete Donelly.
The event raised approximately EC$2000.00, $500.00 of which came from auctioned live paintings done by Naja Simeon, one of St. Lucia’s talented visual artists.
Patrons were able to enjoy soothing melodies on guitar, sax, keyboard and vocals of both seasoned and aspiring artistes. Koudmen continues to be held every third Thursday of the month at Island Mix as its organizers seek to inspire the youth in art and music. The initiative is a collaboration ofJUMP (Juniors Under A Mentorship Programme) Indigenous Productions and Island Mix.
JUMP is a registered organisation established to mentor the youth in art, music, sports and academics and so far has engaged over fifty youth in enriching activities. The monthly Koudmen activities provide a regular stage for youth from northern schools to be mentored by seasoned musicians who also perform at the event. On completion of the year’s programme, selected students will receive a scholarship to attend the School of Music or painting classes in order to continue honing their talents.
