THE Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) has announced that a tropical wave on Thursday, and the accompanying heavy rainfall, affected several water systems on the island.
In Babonneau, the Hill 20 plant has been turned off because the intakes which feed the plant are clogged and the supply is turbid. The Marquis river is high and remains dangerous to undertake any work, while the Talvern pumps went off as a result of the heavy rainfall. Crews will investigate once it is safe to do so. WASCO reported.
At the John Compton Dam, the subsidiary intake at Ravine Poisson is clogged.
In Dennery, the sub-systems in Errard, Thomazo, DeniereRiviere, and Aux Lyon have been turned off due to high turbidity and clogged intakes.
The Micoud primary sub-system has been turned off due to high turbidity, however communities are still receiving a normal supply from the plant’s storage tanks. The Desruisseaux sub-systems have been turned off due to high turbidity.
WASCO said that in Vieux Fort, the sub-systems at Grace and Beausejour have been turned off due to high turbidity. The communities of Augier, La Haut, Majomel, Grace, Coolie Town, Terre Vent, Hope Estate, La Retroite, and Morne Vent will be affected.
In Choiseul, the Delcer sub-system has been turned off due to high turbidity. This will affect the communities of Piaye, La Perle, Sapphire, Delcer, MorneSion, Martin, La Pointe, Industry, Reunion, Le Riche, Fiette, Debreuille, Dupre, Roblot, Cafferiere, Dugard, and La Maze.
In Soufriere, the system has been shut down due to turbidity, affecting the communities of Morne Bonin, Bois Den, Belle Fond, Etangs, Myers Bridge, Victoria Tank, Belle Plain, Migny, Fond St.Jacques, St.Phillip, Cresland, Zeno, l’Esperance, and Toraille. The Fond St. Jacques sub-systems are functioning but with low flows.
In Canaries, the primary sub-system has been turned off due to high turbidity. The communities affected are Canaries, Belvedere and Flora Villa.
In Anse la Raye, the system has been turned off due to high turbidity. Communities are being served from storage tanks.
