On Thursday evening in a decider Vieux Fort South defeated Roseau Valley 3 – 0 to top the group with 10 points.
Also on Thursday evening, this time at the Gros Islet playing field in a do or die situation La Clery needed a win against Choiseul and a handful of goals to add pressure on Gros Islet. They managed to come up with half the deal when they defeated the visitors 1 – 0 to level on 9 points with Central Castries. The goal scorer for La Clery No.7 Jonathan Allen in the 20th minute.
The boys decked in their customary red and black attire will only have themselves to blame for not advancing to the quarter final stage and not taking advantage of the 7 easy scoring opportunities offered to them including a penalty. To add insult to injury La Clery’s No.3 Steve Rhone was sent packing by Referee Vivian Robinson when he was shown a red card in the 39th minute of play, shortly after being shown yellow for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
In the much anticipated matchup of the evening defending champions Gros Islet with their crowd support behind them scraped home narrowly to book a quarter final spot when they defeated group leaders Central Castries 1 – 0, a goal courtesy No. 9 Troy Greenidge in the 9th minute to the delight of the fans.
So it’s all to play for this weekend. You lose, you go home, you win – you have a chance at the $30,000. 00 at stake for the championship scheduled for Saturday May 21 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Ground.
