SUPER LEAGUE – 19 Teams In K.O Series From Today

FOOTBALL fans are expected to converge on the Darren Sammy National Cricket Ground (DSNCG) today for the commencement of the second annual Super League Football Tournament.

The action will kick off from 4.30 p.m. with an opening ceremony that also includes a few speeches by the various stakeholders.

This year’s tournament has 19 district teams playing under a knockout basis in four groups for the top prize of $30,000.00. Following the opening ceremony, the opening game from 6.00 p.m. will be between Anse la Rayeand Dennery.

At 8.00 p.m. defending Super League championsGros Islet with the likes of Everton Lambert, Romiel Felix, Eden Charles, Troy Greenidge, Melvin Doxilly, Melvin Oriellien and Caster James all national players will play Grenada’s national champions Paradise FC which also has six national players on its roster.

On Sunday, the tournament will whistle its way to the south of the island for a double header that includes both Vieux Fort teams. In Group 1 – from 5.30 p.m. Mon Repos plays Vieux Fort North. In Group 2 – Vieux Fort South takes on Laborie at 7.30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds.

Meanwhile, Platinum sponsor Digicel has given its support for the tournament and this year’s contribution has been in cash and kind towards the event.

The many other sponsors associated with this year’s tournament shared similar sentiments as they look forward to an exciting, and high level of competition amongst the various teams.
