THESE two parties really are not cutting it. I do not think that I have much convincing to do to sell this proven truth. Hello! Like, please! You really want to argue that? If the saying is true “that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is madness” then we’re running an asylum down here. Area?237 sq. miles.
Last elections, I was convinced that if we had a unified force to oppose these two major political parties, then they would not have stood a chance. I am not sure that I am as convinced this time around. There was a proposition for forming a coalition of independent candidates (and for those who are still convinced that it was my proposition, it was not). Whoever initiated the idea should have been legit enough to respond to email inquiries (not my inquiries).
They have set up this election as a war. A war between the Chastanets and the SLP or is it between Guy Joseph and Kenny Anthony? Or is it the party and the media? Whatever it is, the dynamics are not the same as in 2011. Voter apathy was rife. A lot of people were/are disenfranchised by the voting process, just as they are by the justice system. Why bother; the words on many people’s minds. There seems not to be an alternative. Everyone one is convinced that it will be Allen Chastanet or Dr Kenny Anthony as Prime Minister. It does not have to be.
Has Saint Lucia ever had a coalition government? A compromised one, maybe, but coalition? I don’t think so. Someone has vouched that we can really stick it to the egos of the two parties if we mix things around. Change the balance of power. Throw in a few independent candidates and a few minority party candidates and let’s see what happens. I can write a lot more. But go ahead! Let’s make this elections interesting.
Mr. Charlemagne, this electorate does not listen to people with no big money to flash in their faces. For your idea to make sense the proponents must all be economically independent folks with the money and can easily prove that they are only going into it to fix it.
