Violence-Against-Women-March

THE local advocacy group, Raise Your Voice Saint Lucia is joining the rest of the world in collective global action to say NO to violence against women and children.

The theme for this year’s campaign is “Prevention”. Raise Your Voice Saint Lucia says that one in three women has experienced physical and sexual violence in their lifetime. It added: “It is time to take action and put an end to the violence against women! November 25 each year is observed as International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”

Raise Your Voice Saint Lucia is calling on women, men and children to unite and join in a march on Wednesday at Serenity Park from 2:00 p.m., which will end at the Derek Walcott Square, where a vigil will be held.

All participants for the march are to wear orange, purple or black. The group said: “Orange brings awareness to the elimination of violence against women. It symbolises a brighter future without violence. Purple signifies peace, courage, survival, honour and dedication to ending violence and Black in memory of victims who are no longer with us.”

According to Raise Your Voice Saint Lucia, Everyone has a role to play in preventing and ending violence against women and children. Join us as we continue the fight to eradicate the violence acts against our women and girls.
