SAINT LUCIA’S national swim team has received financial support from LIME to help them compete in the 25th OECS Swimming Championship.

Saint Lucia’s leading telecommunications provider, and one of the biggest and most generous corporate sponsors of local sports, is the title sponsor of the 36-member swim team who are now in Antigua representing their country at the championship, which concludes Sunday, November 8.

The team members range from 8 and under to the 18 and over age group. They are coming up against swimmers from Antigua, British Virgin Islands, Grenada and St. Vincent. For the first time Saint Lucia will be represented in the Open Water category with two swimmers set to compete.

Commenting on the sponsorship of Team Saint Lucia, Ms. Geraldine Pitt, Country Manager for LIME, stated, “With this sponsorship we are demonstrating our commitment to swimming at the National level because we know that we have very talented and hardworking athletes throughout St. Lucia and competitions such as the OECS Championship provide a fantastic opportunity for our young people to display their talent. We are all about the development of youths through sports at a national level. We therefore welcome the opportunity to partner with SLASA to get our team to Antigua,”

President of the Saint Lucia Amateur Swimming Association (SLASA), Carol Mangal, said the association is deeply grateful for the support from LIME.

“When the majority of the corporate organisations contacted for financial assistance turned us down, LIME was the only one who was willing to support us in a big way by agreeing to be our Main Sponsor, thereby ensuring that the St Lucia National Swim Team is placed in a position to defend the title of OECS Swim Champions. The St Lucia Amateur Swimming Association is eternally grateful for this generous donation from LIME which came when it mattered most to our young swimmers,” said Ms Mangal.

LIME has a long and proud history of supporting Saint Lucian sportsmen and women in practically every major sport. Over the years, the company has invested millions of dollars sponsoring various sports clubs, local and regional tournaments and primary and secondary school sports meets.

The Sea Jays Swim Club has also received support from LIME. LIME recently collaborated with LIME TV content providers, LORAC Communications to provide Sea Jays with financial support, T-shirts and other paraphernalia to help the club’s swimmers compete in regional meets.
