Funding Will Prepare Her For Rio Games.
THE St. Lucia Olympic Committee last Saturday held signing ceremony at Olympic House for the recipient of the Olympic Solidarity scholarship. The recipient this time around was high jumper Jeanelle Scheper.
Committee General Secretary Alfred Emmanuel in presenting the cheque to Scheper said, “The funding is to facilitate the preparation for Rio 2016 Games. The media would have recalled that earlier this year we did make the announcement that three athletes were on Olympic Solidarity Scholarships. The individuals are – athlete MakebaAlcide, swimmer Jordan Augier and sailor Stephanie Devaux- Lovell. We also made the announcement that we were providing financial assistance for Levern Spencer as well. Since then we have received yet another request for assistance which the SLOC has been inclined to support, the request for assistance came from Jeannelle Scheper”.
The SLOC General Secretary said, “like the other athletes who have applied through the Elite Athlete Assistance Programme, the SLOC had agreed to provide living assistance of US$1500.00 monthly, retroactive from 1 July 2015 up until 31 August 2016.
He said that while the SLOC was always prepared and willing to assist, the recipients must always be willing and ready to provide information whenever it is needed and not only provide information, but accurate information. The recipients need to account for every cent by producing receipts / invoices, because these are the standards the SLOC was being held by.
