‘Mindoo’ Cricket Finals Starts Today Castries vs Soufriere

THE Mindoo Phillip Park will be a hive of activity this weekend as the St.Lucia National Cricket Association will stage the finals of the Mindoo Phillip Inter District two-day Cricket Tournament scheduled to bowl off from 9.30 a.m. today and tomorrow.

Based on recent performances thus far, the boys from Soufriere will be aiming to get their hands on the tournament trophy as they seek to dethrone two time defending champions Central Castries on home turf.

The two teams earned bragging rights into this weekend’s final with contrasting semi final wins. Soufriere secured a 3 wicket win over Gros Islet, while Central Castries had the better of Mabouya Valley defeating them by 8 wickets.

The Central Castries team features the likes of Stephen Naitram, Gaspard Prospere, Alleyne Prospere, LoicProspere, Nick Elibox, Dillion John and Marlon O’Brian ,while Soufriere is expected to depend heavily on off spinner DaliusMonrose who picked up a career best 7 for 40 against Gros Islet in the semi final. Monrose will have alongside him KeitherProspere, Julian Sylvester, Greg Mitchel, Ashley Hippolyte, Desmond Alfred, Quint and ShaniiMesmain .

According to SLNCA Operations Manager Bryan Calixte, following this weekend’s final, a squad is expected to be named to commence training in preparation for the senior Windward Islands Goodwill Tournament, scheduled for St. Vincent and the Grenadines in August.
