IAU Holds Blood Donors Drive This Thursday

THIS coming Sunday countries around the world will celebrate ‘World Blood Donor Day’ with events to raise awareness of the need for safe blood donation and to thank voluntary blood donors for their life-saving gift of blood.

True to its commitment to the community of St. Lucia and in observation of the World Blood Donor Day, The International American University-College of Medicine in association with St. Jude Hospital Blood Bank Services, would like to host a mega blood donation drive on Thursday. It will be held in front of the Daher Building, Beanfield, Vieux Fort.

The theme of this year’s campaign is “Thank you for saving my life”. It focuses on thanking blood donors who save lives every day through their blood donations and strongly encourages more people all over the world to donate blood voluntarily and regularly with the slogan “Give freely, give often. Blood donation matters.”

The campaign aims to highlight stories from people whose lives have been saved through blood donation, as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood and people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so.

The wider public, students, faculty and staff members of IAU are expected to participate in this activity that will definitely save a lot of lives said IAU public relations officer SibiGopalakrishnan.

The previous edition of this event was a raging success with 63 units of blood being donated, the largest number of units donated in a single day in Saint Lucia. This year, IAU hopes to do even better with the support of the public.
