THE three remaining matches of the quarter-final stage of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports sponsored Massy United Insurance Under-19 Schools Cricket Tournament continued on Thursday. Victories were recorded for Sir Arthur Lewis over Vide Bouteille Secondary, Gros Islet Secondary over Corinth Secondary and Ciceron Secondary over Clendon Mason Memorial.
At the Gros Islet Playing Field, Gros Islet Secondary led by a maiden century from Marlon Bernard, completed a massive 216 run victory over Corinth Secondary. Gros Islet Secondary School batting first, made a respectful 292 for 5 in their allotted 36 overs, with MaBernard stroking a well played 107 which included 15 fours. Other useful contributions came from, Melvin Doxilly with 52, female player Qiana Joseph with 31 not out and Christopher Koulen 18.
For Corinth Secondary, the leading wicket taker was Daniel Biscette with 2 for 18 in 2 overs.
In reply, Corinth Secondary could only manage 76 in 18 overs before being bowled out. Lee Solomon 36 was the only batsman to make any meaningful contribution.
Doing the damage for Gros Islet Secondary were, Melvin Doxilly with 4 for 19 in 5 overs and female player Qiana Joseph 2 for 10 in 4 overs.
The Massy United Insurance “man of the match” went to Bernard for his wonderful knock of 107 for the Gros Islet Secondary School.
At the Monchy Playing Field, Sir Arthur Lewis led by a big century from Christian Charlery made light work of Vide Bouteille Secondary, winning that encounter by a 226 runs. Sir Arthur Lewis, taking first knock made an imposing 274 for 4 in their allocated 32 overs, with Charlery powering his way to a superb 169, which included 11 fours and 16 sixes. Good support also came from Simeon Dalkhan with 30 and Allian Ashby with 27.
Bowling for Vide Bouteille Secondary, Janai Thomas had 2 for 50 in 8 overs.
Chasing a huge target of 275 for victory, Vide Bouteille was rolled over for just 48 in 17 overs.
Doing the damage for Sir Arthur Lewis were seamers, Adeju Hobson who bagged 4 for 19 in 6 overs and Simeon Dalkhan 3 for 22 in 6 overs.
The “man of the match” went to Charlery for his stroke filled century, 169 for Sir Arthur Lewis.
At the Dennery Playing Field, Ciceron Secondary won over Clendon Mason Memorial comfortably by 52 runs. Ciceron Secondary batting first, was dismissed for 174 in the 27th over, with Veron Preville top scoring with 42 and Arkel Joseph 23.
Bowling for Clendon Mason, Nixon Edmund had 3 for 47 in 8 overs, Daniel Augustin 2 for 49 in 8 overs and Saffan Laurent 2 for 51 in 7.4 overs.
Clendon Mason replied with 122 in 23.1 overs, with Nixon Edmund making 44 and Jerlan Jean-Baptiste making 15.
For Ciceron Secondary, the chief destroyer was off spinner and “man of the match” Denfar Edward who picked up 6 for 33 in 7.1 overs. Female player Nerissa Crafton gave good support, picking up 2 for 4 in 2 overs.
