MABOUYA Valley Netball team were among the big winners in Saturday’s round of games in the 2015 St.Lucia National Netball Association Independence Classic presently ongoing.
In front of what can best be described as a well supportive crowd the valley girls held their nerve in the dying stages of the encounter to defeat one of the tournament favourites Shamrock 41 – 37 at the Mabouya Valley Netball Court.
Decked in their customary blue and white attire Mabouya Valley kept a close eye on the score card as they were down by two points after the first quarter (11 – 9). The resumption saw some urgency on their part and with the crowd behind them they totally dominated the remainder of the game, winning the second set (17 – 26) for a 9 point lead at the half time whistle.
Going into the third set there was no letting down on the momentum for Mabouya Valley as goal shoot SyndyAshdale and goal attack Alphia Matthew proved too much for Shamrock both in height and size as they continued their dominance despite Shamrock, scoring 11 points to Mabouya Valley 9 at the end of the quarter.
With all to play for in the final quarter the girls from the city stepped up the tempo a few notches but the girls from the valley shared a one on one point tactic to stay up front in the game to win by four clear goals.
For Mabouya Valley goal shoot SyndyAshdale scored 21 from 36 attempts and goal attack AlphiaMatthew netted 20 from 26 attempts. Shamrock’s goal shoot Rochelle Etienne was good on the night scoring 33 goals from 42 attempts, while Catherine Foster netted 4 from 6.
