DEFENDING champions Gros Islet and Babonneau advanced to the finals of the St. Lucia National Cricket Association’s Inter District Under-19 Cricket Tournament after registering comfortable victories over Laborie and South Castries resprctively in semi-final action played on Saturday.
In Dennery, Gros Islet taking first knock made 260 for 7 in their allotted 40 overs, with half centuries coming from Dane Edward and KimaniMelius with 50 each. Other useful scores came from, captain Vernillius Gabriel with 36, Allian Ashby 25, Nyhymn Terrance 22, VeronPreville 22 not out and Rene Montoute with 15. Bowling for Laborie, ElanClery had 3 for 46 in 6 overs and Shervin George 2 for 37 in 8 overs.
In response, Laborie was bowled out for 164 in 33.2, overs with Rick Moses making 52, JevinIsidore 49 and Dornan Edward 21.
For Gros Islet the main wicket takers were, Christopher Albert with 2 for 18 in 8 overs, Rumario Simmons 2 for 28 in 7 overs and Simeon Gerson 2 for 38 in 7.2 overs.
Babonneau earned a 103 run victory over South Castries.
Winning the toss and batting on an easy paced wicket, but fast outfield, Babonneau were restricted to 241 for the loss of 8 wickets in 48 overs. Their total was due largely to contributions of 79 from St.Lucia’s under – 15 player Jard Goodman, and 46 from Kegan Patrick, while extras a healthy 55.
Bowling for South Castries, Daniel Jn Baptiste bagged 3 for 39 and KesterCharlermagne 2 for 24.
Needing 242 runs for victory, South Castries got off to the worst possible start with opener Leary Auguste being run out off the first ball of the innings. Despite a 70 run second wicket partnership between Keleb Paul 44 and CollinusCallender (29), South Castries folded for 138.
Keegan Patrick continued his good run on form in the match, with 4 for 32 for Babonneau.
