THE Sharks Swim Club is inviting the general public to support the 2015 SWIMATHON for Anthony Francois, to be held on Saturdayb February 21 from 8.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. at the Rodney Heights Aquatics Centre.

In 2009, swimmers raised over $8,000 in aid of Dainelle Gaston, a 15 year old boy needing heart surgery. The swimmers so enjoyed the opportunity to swim for others that they have since held swimathons for victims of Hurricane Tomas and a swimmer’s parent. This year they aim to raise funds to assist the medical expenses of their own, Anthony Francois.

Francois has been on the St. Lucia National Swim Team for over six years. He has represented St. Lucia at the Organization of Eastern Caribbean Swimming Championships, the CARIFTA and CISC Swimming Championships. He last represented St. Lucia in Mexico in September of 2014, where he became very ill.

Anthony has also been a member of the St. Lucia National Volleyball Team.

A former St. Mary’s College student, and now at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Anthony is a top academic, placing third on the island at the Common Entrance Exam and excelling at CXC’s.

Unfortunately, on returning from Mexico, 17 year old Anthony needed urgent medical attention, and has not been able to return to school, swimming or volleyball.

Members of the public are asked to pledge $1.00 for every 25 metres of the pool that is swum by the participant in the St.Lucia Amateur Swimming Association supported Swimathon. Schools are asked to encourage their students to get involved. Cheques may be made payable to the “SHARKS Swim Club – for Anthony Francois”

Business houses are also encouraged to participate by pledging $10.00 for every lap swum by their employee in the Swimathon.

The proprietor of the RHAC, Dr Diane Worrell has agreed to the use of the facility for this fund-raising event
