THE first woman to join the ranks of the Royal St Lucia Police Force died last Sunday at the age of 80.
Veronica Adley of Hospital Road created history in 1958 when she enlisted in the Force. She went on to serve for 31 years rising to the rank of Assistant Superintendent.
Only last Thursday, Commissioner Vernon Francois and other members of the Force visited Ms.Adley at her residence as part of a Police week activity to call on sick and shut-in retired police officers.
The visitors reported that she was in good spirits and enjoyed the visit by the officers. She was also very grateful for the token brought to her on that day.
Adley spoke fondly of her days within the organization and how she had remained in touch with the organization by tuning in every Wednesday to the police radio programme on Radio St. Lucia “Call the Police”.
A police statement yesterday said the Commissioner of Police and other officers were indeed happy to have shared in the last moments of her life.
