FIVE spas will receive the St Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) Quality Logo for meeting the minimum requirements for the provision of quality services by beauty and wellness practitioners.
The spas—Escape Sainte Lisi Day Spa, Cool Water Day Spa, Saint Lucia Health and Beauty Co. Ltd., Touch Therapies Day Spa, and Spa de la Mer—have all met the requirements for the Level One bronze certification.
The Saint Lucia Code of Practice for Beauty and Wellness (SLCP 13:2012) establishes the requirements for the provision of quality services by beauty and wellness practitioners. The award is given under three levels: bronze, gold and platinum.
The implementation of standards has been a long time in the making, and the beauty and wellness sector has been aggressive in pursuing standards for the sector and certification under the guidance of the Saint Lucia Coalition of Services and the Trade Export Promotion Agency (TEPA).
It is expected that the inaugural certifications will be a benchmark for other businesses in the sector—hair salons, barber shops, cosmetology parlours, gymnasiums, skin piercing facilities and tattoo businesses.
The SLBS quality logo will be prominently displayed in the establishments and is valid for a period of one year.
The aim of the beauty and wellness standard is to ensure the safety of the customer by employing hygienic practices in the delivery of services.
While certification to the standard is voluntary, the hope is that the public will demand demonstrated adherence to safety by becoming certified.
An award ceremony to confer the SLBS Quality Logo on the spas was held in the SLBS conference room yesterday..
