NWU: Secure St. Lucia Sabotaged Joint Planned Meeting

A joint staff meeting between the management of Secure St. Lucia Ltd and the National Workers Union (NWU) scheduled for Wednesday August 25, 2021 was aborted.

The meeting was requested by the southern employees of the company. The company’s management and the leadership of the NWU were expected to address employees.

Employees were expected to air their problems, particularly their concerns about the increase in criminal activity in Vieux Fort and decisions that impact negatively on the operations of the company.

According to the NWU employees and union officials waited until 5:00 pm but management officials failed to appear. The workers Thursday assembled at the Company’s office in Vieux Fort seeking an explanation why the no show by management at the agreed upon meeting.

Secretary General of the National Workers Union, Johann Harewood said he is not surprised as this is not the first time the company has reacted that way. Recently, at the highest level within the Department of Labour when a meeting was organized, the Company did not show up. The NWU sees this as a pattern of disrespect for the Department of Labour and disregard for the rules and regulations of engagement in the industrial relations arena.
