Saint Lucia records 147 new cases of COVID-19

PRESS RELEASE — Today Tuesday August 24, 2021, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs confirms 147 new cases of COVID-19. These cases are from a total of 541 samples processed at the Ezra Long Laboratory on Monday August 23, 2021. These cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 7421.

The Ministry of Health also reports two new COVID-19 deaths. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 71 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 28. COVID-19 death #70 is a 55 year old female from the Dennery district. COVID-19 death #71 is an 87 year old female from the Castries district The Ministry of Health extends condolences to family, friends and loved ones of these individuals.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 27 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases currently in country to date to 1546. Four of the active cases are in critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.

Yesterday Monday, August 23, 2021 the Ministry of Health commenced the administering of the Pfizer vaccine to the population. The Pfizer vaccine is available to individuals aged 12 years and older. Since its commencement, 239 individuals have received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and 2 individuals received the second dose. The Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine is still available at the various vaccination sites around the island. To date 34, 649 individuals have received the first dose of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 27, 275 have received the second dose.
