ST. LUCIA’S senior women’s football team will want nothing less than a victory when they play host nation St.Vincent and the Grenadines today at Victoria Park in the inaugural Windward Islands Women’s Football Tournament.
St. Lucia opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Grenada, while host St.Vincent enjoyed a 1 – 0 win over the Commonwealth of Dominica on Tuesday.
By all indications St. Lucia started on a good note with captain Ellaisa Marquis scoring directly from a corner kick in the first five minutes of the encounter, but the Grenadians replied late in the half, and then went ahead with a 2 – 1 lead at the halftime whistle.
On the resumption, St. Lucia’s Shamalyn Albert surged into the box and ended up earning a penalty. The spot kick was converted by Marquis to give her team a share of the points.
