Cornelius Breen, who headed the Saint Lucia Amateur Athletics Association between the period 2010 – 2014, is back at the helm of the organization from Saturday 3rd November 2018 following the SLAA General Meeting held at the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee Headquarters in La Clery.
A banker by profession, Breen, who replaces outgoing president Andrew Magloire was nominated unopposed for the top post and will lead the SLAA for the period 2018 – 2020.
Also nominated unopposed were Shirley Ann Lubin, School Principal of the Marchand Combined School – 1st Vice President. This is the first time a female has been voted in as 1st Vice President of the SLAA since Patsy St. Marthe was elected President for the period 2000 -2002.

Elien is the only returning member to survive from the outgoing executive headed by Andrew Magloire; however he joins five other members on the nine member team including Breen, Lubin, Joseph and Emmanuel who have previously served in one capacity or the other.
The other members elected were new comer Dora Henry who defeated Henry Bailey in a close race 14 – 13, for the position of assistant secretary.
Andy Behl, Pole Vault specialist, defeated Allan Hippolyte and Terry Finistere 14 – 11, 14- 0 to become the Public Relations Officer.
For the post of Treasurer, long time administrator Alfred Emmanuel breezed past Terry Finistere 26 – 1.
Emmanuel recently resigned from his post as Treasurer of the National Olympic Committee of the Caribbean (CANOC) a position he held for 12 years. In his departure as CANOC Treasurer Emmanuel said, “I am also leaving knowing that the finances of the organization are in a healthier state than when I inherited the role”
One would hope with such experience, Emmanuel will bring along some sort of financial stability to the Association. Emmanuel is also the General Secretary of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee
Former high jumper, Jonathan Emmanuel and former president Wayne Burton were nominated unopposed as floor representatives.
According to Breen, the new executive is set to meet soon as he looks to put the SLAA wheels in motion.
With a new athletic season set to run off in early January, Breen said, his new executive will leave no stone unturned when it comes to the business of track and field.
