THE debate over the promotions process within the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s heading towards resolution, its staving off a possible court battle between the Police Force hierarchy and the Police Welfare Association.
“The process is still ongoing,” Police Commissioner, Vernon Francois told The VOICE this week.
What’s next are the exams to be taken later this month by all those who applied and got accepted to the promotions procedure.
The Association had a few questions and objections about the guidelines used when the promotions process began last year.
Executive members met with Police Commissioner Vernon Francois and reminded him of the option at their disposal, which to take the matter to a court of law if certain matters were not changed.
“I met with them and they have accepted that the show will go on,” Francois said.
But the Association’s president Cameron Laure is taking a cautionary approach explaining that although the Association’s executive told Francois about the legal option available to them, they will not jump into anything without first consulting their membership.
The executive was expected to meet this week before meeting with their general membership.
But as far as Francois is concerned there should not be any obstacle blocking things.
“The process is being conducted as per the promotions guidelines of 2012/2013,” Francois said.
About 254 police officers are going through the promotions process. Less than 100 who applied could not go through for one reason or another.
