Hectic Cricket Action This Weekend

IT’S a hectic cricket weekend for members of the St.Lucia National Cricket Association as local cricket fans at various venues will have the chance to see a number of senior and under – 19 national players in action.

The highlight for the weekend will be the start of the Mindoo Phillip Division 1 two day competition, the Lotteries Under – 19 semifinals and the AcyntaAuguste women’s 50 overs final between rivals Gros Islet and South Castries.

In Division 1, four matches are on the card. At the Gros Islet Playing Field Central Castries plays rivals Gros Islet, Mabouya Valley comes up against South Castries at the La Ressource Playing Field, Laborie stays home for their encounter against Mon Repos, while Choiseul plays Soufriere at the Piaye Playing Field.

All matches are scheduled to bowl off from 9:30 a.m. on both days.

In the St. Lucia National Lotteries Under – 19 semifinals scheduled for today from 9.30 p.m.; Gros Islet with prolific batsman KamaniMelius and left arm off spinner Simeon Gerson in their line-up will play Central Castries with the experienced Marlon Remy and Joshua Mann in their line-up at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Ground.

South Castries will have CollinusCallender and Nixon Edmund when they come against Babonneau, with the 2014 junior sportsman for the year Johnnel Eugene who scored an unbeaten 134 against Soufriere and fast bowler Stewart Calderon, that all important encounter at the Mindoo Phillip Park.

Meanwhile, a new champion will be crowned in the AcyntaAuguste 50 Overs final scheduled for tomorrow when South Castries plays Gros Islet at the Mindoo Phillip Park. Both teams possess a number of past and present national cricketers in their line-ups.

The two teams had resounding victories last weekend against their opponents. Gros Islet defeated Laborie by 83 runs, while South Castries enjoyed a 76 runs win over defending champions Choiseul.
