FOR the second consecutive year, the Marigot Development Committee will add its own magic to the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival Fringe experience with a culturally diverse entertainment line-up for the 2016 edition of Marigot Jazz Fusion.
To be staged at the Total Construction Grounds alongside the main Marigot road, Marigot Jazz Fusion will run from 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.
Headlining Marigot Fusion Jazz will be one of the Eastern Caribbean’s longest surviving musical bands, Dominica’s iconic Midnight Groovers, dubbed by fans the world over as the ‘King of Cadence’ for their unique fusion of the popular music forms of cadence and calypso – or cadence-lypso. Part of ‘Groovers’ signature style is their ability to unpack social commentary on serious topical issues to the infectious cadence-lypso melodies yet remaining essential as a dance band.
The world-travelled Midnight Groovers commemorates 41 years in existence this year, has thirty-eight compilations and dozens of chart toppers of the day.
The group was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award in 2014 at the 18th annual World Creole Music Festival by the Dominica Festivals Committee having carved a name of distinction for itself in the annals of popular Caribbean music.
Also on the cards will be Naked Chords featuring Claudia Edwards, Black Pearl, Mongstar, NRG Band out of Anse La Raye, Ras Africa, Prosper, the Jon OdlumMarigot Secondary School Steel Pan Orchestra and Marigot Youth for Change.
Special appearances will also be made by contestants of the Valley Carnival Queen Pageant as well as Angela O’Brian as part of her ‘Poetry in Motion’ series.
Chairman of the Marigot Development Committee Anthony Pierre-Louis says, “The evening will be one filled with music, entertainment and fashion and the community of Marigot invites all of Saint Lucia to come out to this culturally inspired show, where they will experience the fusion of all genres of music, while setting the pace for a true Jazz experience characteristic of this year’s 25th anniversary of the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival.”
Sponsors of Marigot Fusion Jazz which takes place on April 30 include Total Construction Supplies, Saint Lucia Tourist Board, Digicel, Heineken, Chairman’s Reserve, LUCELEC, Blue Waters, Cepal Holdings, Rainforest Hideaway, Mango Beach, and SLP Castries South Constituency Office.
