THEPonmDamou Poetry Slam begins later today. Another year with no sponsorship but the organisers are not disheartened. They, however, remain thankful to media houses like Calabash TV, The VOICE Newspaper and Radio Saint Lucia who have been undying supporters through the years.
This is the seventh year of the slam and this time around it takes place at the Arts Cafe at the Aquarius Crossing at the corner of St Louis and Coral Streets. Tonight poets are expected to go head-to-head in three rounds of competition. A winner will be judged and gain entry into the finals of the event which is scheduled for December 15. A prize of $1000 is offered to the winner. Organisers are still accepting participants.
The PonmDamou Poetry Slam is more that just poetry. It is an eclectic mix of the arts, giving a stage to musicians, singers dancers, actors, comedians, fashion designers, videographers, artists and the like, to display their talent.
The preliminary rounds, of which there will be six, are free to the public and will be held every Thursday thereafter from 6:00 p.m. Make it an after work lime and come taste of the treats and sips in the delectable drinks served at the Arts Cafe and enjoy what the poets will offer
