WE set off about 6.00 a.m., on Monday from the Caribbean Cinemas car park, as we do annually on the Thanksgiving holiday, about 22 of us on a happy walk to St Mary’s College – and back, for those who thought nothing of it. The rest of us just managed the one-way trip, which was, in fact, the intended distance. The morning was kind to us: no rain, no pain.
Our sponsored walk for the Centre for Adolescent Renewal and Education (C.A.R.E.) raised some useful dollars to go towards the special transportation fund of that worthy institution, which does yeoman’s work in furtherance of the development of the youth of St Lucia.
The institution’s curriculum includes programmes in the technical/vocational skills area and, not least, the much praised Adolescent Development Programme (ADP), which provides opportunities for growth spiritually, physically, intellectually, culturally, emotionally, and socially.
As co-ordinator of the Presentation Brothers Associates, which group organises the walk, I would personally like to thank the willing walkers who never fail to respond to our call to participate. We absolutely rely on you each year and are as grateful for your active involvement as for the generosity of our loyal sponsors and yours, all highly valued. Please convey our gratitude, and say to them: We walked for C.A.R.E. this year and, with your help, we’ll walk it again next year!
If YOU care enough to walk for C.A.R.E., we’d like you to join us. Please call the C.A.R.E. office at 451-1510 or the Associates at 452-5847 for details. Brother Dominic’s dream lives on!
