Chef Walter Staib, longstanding culinary ambassador for Sandals Resorts International, was recognized for his critically acclaimed television show, “A Taste of History”, a series that explores America’s culinary beginnings from the birthplace of cuisine, by The National Academy of Television Sciences.

Awarded two Emmys this season, this marks the sixth Emmy award in six seasons of the series, which airs nationwide on PBS and RLTV.

In the sixth season of “A Taste of History”, Chef Staib goes back to his Caribbean roots by travelling to St. Lucia and Grenada, visiting Sandals Halcyon and Sandals LaSource Grenada, to celebrate the unique culinary experiences in each destination and the islands’ influence on American cuisine.

Sandals Halcyon Executive chef, Chef Rodroy Thomas was featured as a guest chef on the Saint Lucia episode, as well as other members of Sandals Halcyon team, which helped create an award-winning moment in the series.

“The reason we won this award, is because the chef had such a fantastic menu, the culture and cuisine are so colourful, and this history of the island is so compelling,” said Chef Walter Staib.

A third-generation restaurateur with more than four decades of culinary experience, Chef Walter Staib is an author, Emmy Award winning TV host, James Beard-nominated chef and culinary historian.

In addition to his role with Sandals Resorts, he is currently the driving force behind Philadelphia’s City Tavern, a faithful recreation of an original 18th century tavern and Concepts By Staib, Ltd.’s flagship operation.
