Soccer Fever Heats Up in SPFL Challenge

Gros Islet delivered an amazing performance defeating Soufriere 3-0, as the Saint Lucia Semi Professional Football League (SPFL) Round 11 fixtures produced another weekend of high-scoring and entertaining soccer.

In total, 26 goals were scored across the weekend, as the Northern-based contenders Gros Islet put on an emphatic display.

Playing in a Tier I challenge against the home team , at the Soufriere Mini Stadium, Gros Islet stunned with a commanding 3–0 victory, closing out an action-packed weekend.

Ridel Stanislaus found the nets in the 51 st minute to break the deadlock , before he struck again seven minutes later, completing his brace in the 58th minute to give Gros Islet the advantage.

Jahlil Evans solidified the win converting in the 60th minute, for maximum points as Gros offensive play accelerated a devastating nine-minute spell.

In an earlier match , football fans witnessed another thrilling encounter as Canaries and Castries Central battled to a dramatic 2–2 draw, for a share of the points.

Castries Central took an early two-goal lead, with Messiah Pinel scoring in the 8th minute, before Rasheed Eugene doubled the advantage just two minutes later. Canaries responded quickly, with Dhriv Jn. Baptiste reducing the deficit in the 14th minute with a well-taken header. Just when it appeared that Castries Central secure all three points, Canaries produced a remarkable late comeback.

McCathur Louis was outstanding , netting the equalizer for Soufriere in the fourth minute of added time.

Following the weekend’s action, Vieux Fort South remain atop the SPFL Premier League standings with 21 points. Dennery follows closely in second place with 19 points, while Canaries and La Clery are locked on 18 points. Canaries occupy third place by virtue of their superior goal difference, with defending champions La Clery sitting fourth.

Gros Islet round out the top five with 16 points following their impressive victory over Soufriere. With the championship race tightening and teams separated by only a handful of points, the SPFL Premier League is shaping up for another exciting stretch as the battle for the coveted title intensifies.
