After comprehensive negotiations, employees of the Mabouya Valley Credit Union have successfully secured representation from the National Workers Union (NWU). The staff contingent, including IT, Clerical and Ancillary Workers, is now represented by the NWU to coordinate their industrial relations issues.
Ultimately, the Management of the Credit Union and the NWU initiated a process that brought the parties to the negotiating table.
Having exchanged proposals for discussion, the parties agreed to an eight percent (8%) compounded general wage increase for employees over the three-year duration of the Industrial Accord, at 3%, 3% and 2%, effective 1 st January, 2026.
Workers will also benefit from improved working conditions, along with paternity, study and trade union education advancement. The workers have agreed in principle to spearhead a thrust within the community to attract new membership to their cooperative credit union.
Both parties are scheduled to meet shortly with Labour Department officials to sign the new industrial contract.
Notably, it has been verified that the National Workers Union represents the majority of credit union organizations on the island.
