In 2024, Tapion Hospital achieved a historic milestone by successfully performing Saint Lucia’s first coronary angiograms and angioplasties with stent placement. These minimally invasive procedures diagnose and treat coronary artery disease; one of the leading causes of death on the island.
A coronary angiogram allows cardiologists to visualize blocked arteries using advanced imaging technology. When blockages are found, angioplasty with stent placement restores blood flow by opening narrowed arteries and inserting a small mesh tube to keep them open. These procedures often mean the difference between life and death.
For decades, patients in need of this level of cardiac care had no choice but to travel overseas often urgently, at great financial strain, and always with emotional hardship for families left behind. Today, with a state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory, skilled local cardiologists, and strong regional collaboration, life-saving heart procedures are performed right here at home.
Twenty- eight patients have already benefited from this groundbreaking service. But beyond the numbers lies something greater increasing confidence in our healthcare system and reassurance for both locals and visitors that advanced cardiac care is available within our shores.

The adoption of the Holmium:YAG laser has revolutionized the management of kidney stones, bladder tumors, and ureteral strictures. Patients no longer face the financial burden and disruption of overseas medical travel for these treatments.

By providing a non-surgical alternative to hysterectomy and myomectomy, UAE allows women to preserve their uterus, experience shorter recovery times, and return more quickly to their normal daily activities.
