‘Lucian Breadfruit’ Set for Global Export

Saint Lucian breadfruits are poised to become a high-quality staple on the global market under the official brand name: Lucian Breadfruit.

Export Saint Lucia (ESL), the island’s premier export agency, has been working diligently to enhance the global appeal of local products. This initiative has led to the introduction of new branding and packaging for breadfruit exports.

The breadfruit product is set to enter the global market with a fresh, distinctive look aimed at boosting recognition and market presence.

According to ESL, the Lucian Breadfruit brand will feature green and national colors for export. Boxes branded with “Product of Saint Lucia” will be used for shipping.

The branded product will showcase illustrations of Saint Lucia’s iconic Pitons, the breadfruit and its leaf, avocados, and other locally exported products.

ESL’s CEO, Sunita Daniel, highlighted the significance of this branding effort.

“Saint Lucia’s products usually went out into the market with no branding,” Daniel explained at a recent media briefing.

She noted that, given global marketing trends, the agency needed to upgrade its trade practices. “We’re trying to fix that so people can know exactly where the product is coming from,” she said.

To emphasize the high quality of Saint Lucia’s breadfruit globally, the new packaging will include “Product of Saint Lucia” labels.

Additionally, ESL plans to establish a trademark to ensure legal protection and maintain the integrity of the Lucian Breadfruit label.

With ESL providing the Lucian Breadfruit tag to local farmers at no cost, breadfruit farmers have begun purchasing boxes with the prospect of exporting their products.
