Alternative Sports is gaining prominence within the local sports arena, and authorities are actively working to nurture this segment of the sporting world. Last weekend, the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports hosted a Clubs and Associations Workshop specifically focused on Alternative Sports.

The workshop centred around the theme: Understanding Effective Structures for Clubs and Associations. Youth Development and Sports Minister Kenson Casimir encouraged participants to reflect on the progress made since the introduction of the Alternative Sports program two years ago. He emphasized the importance of charting a positive course for the future.

Casimir also stressed the need for open and candid discussions to assess the current state of Alternative Sports and explore avenues for further development. While certain alternative sports receive significant attention, there are others within the same category that lag behind. Understanding why some sports attract more interest than others is crucial.

Acting Director of Sports Clivus Jules observed that many young individuals are drawn to Alternative Sports. He urged workshop participants to seize this opportunity and actively contribute to the growth of the game. According to Jules, Alternative Sports is already emerging as the flagship programme within the ministry, garnering widespread attention from society.

Participants were reminded of their critical role in shaping the future of alternative sports. Jules encouraged them to share the knowledge gained during the workshop with their respective clubs and associations. By doing so, they can collectively improve the sports landscape, benefiting both their individual groups and the entire country.
