His Lordship, the Hon. Justice Mario Michel, a seasoned legal professional with a distinguished career, is now the Acting Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC), headquartered in Saint Lucia.
Justice Michel was sworn in by Saint Lucia’s Acting Governor-General, His Excellency Errol Charles, on 6th May 2024.
Justice Michel took up his position immediately hereby ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the court and its seamless transition of leadership.
The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court at the same time announced the retirement of Her Ladyship, the Honourable Dame Janice M. Pereira DBE, LLD, a trailblazer who has left an indelible mark on the court.
Her retirement, effective 5th May 2024, marked the end of an era. Her ladyship gave sterling and yeoman service to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court over 12 years, serving as the Court’s first female Chief Justice.
