THE 42nd Annual Sports Awards ceremony is on tonight (Saturday), at the Pavilion, Rodney Bay – where some of Saint Lucia’s foremost athletes will vie for the coveted titles at stake.
The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports announced the shortlist of nominees for the prestigious awards ceremony which aims to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of sportspersons throughout the year 2023.
Saint Lucian athletes were in the spotlight in global sports, last year, with some exceptional performances.
Top on the list was the ace sprinter Julien Alfred – who set some record-breaking times as she dashed away past some heavy contenders, while keeping pace with other top athletes in the game.
West Indies dynamic one-day player – Johnson “Johno” Charles was explosive on the pitch and made his presence felt in the international T20 arena, particularly in the Bangladesh and Pakistan leagues, while also contributing to the Windies series win versus England among others.
National swimmers Jayhan Odlum Smith and Naomi London held their own to make waves in the pool to better their times to win medals.
All in all, sports fans and enthusiasts are in for a treat as they eagerly await the results of this popular annual awards ceremony.
