LOCAL football powerhouses Dennery and La Clery will square-off in the finals of the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc. Island Premier Cup tomorrow, while Soufriere takes on Central Castries today in the Super Cup both matches are played at the Soufriere Mini-Stadium.
The Premier Cup clash is anticipated to be a ‘block-buster’ encounter.
Anse La Raye plays Marchand at 6.00 pm in the Third Place Off in the Super Cup.
Dennery booked their place into the finals of the SLFA Inc. Premier Cup with a hard fought 2 – 1 victory over an enthused Desruisseaux team at the Dennery Playing Field, this week.
Stevie Henry put Desruisseaux ahead in the 47th minute, and a ding-dong battle ensued as opposing teams sought to gain the upper hand.
However, in the 76th minute, Elius Serieux got the equalizer for Dennery. As the contest heated up Jamie Prospere sealed the initiative for the East-coast side in the 80th minute, for a hard-fought victory.
Meanwhile, defending champions Gros Islet were knocked out of the competition going down to La Clery 3 – 2 in a hard-fought encounter.
Uhann De Gazon opened the scoring for La Clery in the 45th minute as the half ended 1 – 0.
On the resumption, La Clery quickly got into their stride as Mervin St. Romain made it 2 – 0 in the 49th minute. Three minutes later Rickelme Lionel reduced the deficit.
Despite the pendulum swinging back and forth, Sebastien Ribot equalised for Gros Islet in the 81st minute. Making his presence felt, Malik St. Prix secured the winner in the 85th minute to send La Clery into the finals.
Notably, both teams ended the game with 10 players – as Devone St. Prix of La Clery picked up two yellow cards in the 18th and 71st minutes, and likewise Lawshawn Louisien of Gros Islet in the 6th and 71st minutes respectively.
Gros Islet takes on Desruisseaux in the third-place playoffs.
In other updates, the SLFA Inc. President’s Cup, is due to kick off, next Tuesday (January 23). Matches will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Dennery Playing Field, at 6pm & 8pm respectively.
Seven clubs met the necessary requirements for this edition of the President’s Cup. They are scheduled to do battle for the top two spots and to be promoted to the SLFA Div. II.
