Valley Soccer Club Retains Lead in CSL Tournament

The excitement in the Castries Super League (CSL) continued on Sunday, March 29, with a thrilling triple-header at the SAB.

In the opening match, Lancers FC narrowly defeated Police 1-0 in a fiercely contested battle. Lancers FC took the lead in the 37th minute when Dennon George, the tournament’s top goal scorer, converted a penalty.

Unfortunately for the lawmen, striker Aaron Richard’s subsequent penalty attempt went wide, leaving Police scoreless.

In the second match, Valley Soccer faced off against Nyah FC, who were again fielding a nine-man team. Despite being shorthanded, Nyah FC showed remarkable resilience, trailing only 1-0 at halftime thanks to a goal from Nakeem Joseph in the 23rd minute.

The second half saw Valley Soccer capitalize on Nyah’s fatigue, with Joseph netting his second goal in the 55th minute, followed by additional goals from Marcallan John and Irvin Faucher in the 61st and 65th minutes, respectively.

This victory propelled Valley Soccer to a total of thirteen points, maintaining their three-point lead at the top of the standings.
The day’s action concluded with VSADC competing against FC Pioneers. With FC Pioneers struggling with numbers, VSADC took advantage early, scoring in the 1st minute thanks to Brendant Cornibert, assisted by Raheim Peters. They doubled their lead when a mishap from defender Danny Felicien resulted in an own goal.

FC Pioneers weren’t deterred, pulling one back just before halftime with a fortunate tap-in, ending the first half at 2-1. The second half saw Ian Earnest score a brilliant free kick, bringing the match level at 2-2.

However, in the 79th minute, Jameel Joseph converted a penalty for VSADC, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

The CSL will take a break for the Easter weekend, resuming on Sunday, April 12, with all teams back in action.
