Time to reassess how we see Work!

By Carlton Ishmael

It is so unfortunate that when opportunity comes to earn a dollar, some clasify it as below, or beneath them, and would rather do without, rather than accept what they consider as charity or a pitance for their services.
When the uprooted African slaves were brought to this land it was all about force labour without pay. No rewards at the end of the day, also no independence, nor choices not even the comfort to sleep after a hard days work. One could not choose what type of work to do, nor the hours, or it’s benefit.
But with the passing of time, after years on enforced labor without pay, we have evolved and today some people discrimanate against doing certain chores — even when it may benefit them in many ways.
We have been cultured over the years to pay for all that we need and in most cases monetary rewards only come from work, or imput regardless the type. In the area of work, you will find back-breaking labour, technical skills that demand selective knowledge and there is now becoming a new trend of electronic workmanship and for plenty, it is service only if necessary, especially In the hospitality sector.
In todays times choices are more outspread, in most cases independence is offered without observation or slave master or supervisor and pay can be negotiated.
Now we have a situation where all is in need of money to sustain their survival, and their livelihood, but some would consider slealing or cheating, or even killing, to obtain cash as their choice of work, but with no legitimate employment means.
When opportunities are offered to learn, or progress in a much needed field, some pay no mind, especially the young men, of whom it’s all about, Quick Cash or gambling, for it has become the choice method of survival.
Futuristic thinking is seldom in the equation, and most forget that if you live by the gun you just may die by it, and if you live by deceit, Karma is for real.
Not all manual labor is about blood, sweat, and tears. For instance, to plant or care for the beasts of the land, care about the bees, the birds or the fowls can be seen as a labour of love and purpose and not about grinding yourself to the bone with no purpose or benefits.
Some father’s make children, but will not materally care for them, mothers put a ceiling on how many they can care for, and most seek first for their materal needs and forget the need to keep a civilisation alive.
Some people find joy in taking life, and destroying the life of others, some have become creatures of the flesh without having a pinch of spirituality. Some are without mercy, without empathy without love, and have become lovers of life, from a materal prospective, not keepers of mankind and our heritage.
But, what is the objective of life if you believe in nothing and have no purpose nor objective for our race or culture?
Some of you drink your lives away, stay high on any substance, gamble with your life and others as well and pay no attention to the most high. Well, if this is all we can be, then our fight on earth is finished.
Recently, I watched the usual Easter Christian movies and remembering clearly the story of Moses, the outcry from the enslaved to be free from extreme labour and bondage. They saught a deliverer, got their wish gained their freedom, but before the journey could end most went back to the same sinful life style.
Honoring man-made Gods like in the past is no different from the present and some people never learn. They also forget the biblical quotation: What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and suffer the lost of his soul?
There is no After Life that we know about. We have been told about ‘life after death’. but with no proof.
So, for the present, we ought to cherish the one we presently know and live with! (end)
