SLARP Celebrates 41 Years of Service, Outreach, and New Initiatives

In celebration of its 41st anniversary, the Saint Lucia Association of Retired Persons Inc. (SLARP) is calling for greater recognition and participation in the public sphere to strengthen the bonds between family and societal values passed down through generations.

On March 27, SLARP commemorated this significant milestone with various activities honoring its longstanding commitment to serving older persons across the island.

Highlights included a commemorative church service at the Marian Home Chapel, officiated by Father Anthony, and an Open House at the Association’s office, which also marked the official launch of SLARP’s new Book Club. This initiative aims to promote lifelong learning, social engagement, and mental stimulation among retirees.

In his address, President K. Patrick Felix reflected on the Association’s vital role in advocating for the rights, dignity, and well-being of older citizens. He acknowledged that while this anniversary is a moment of pride, it also underscores the ongoing challenges many seniors face, including rising living costs, access to healthcare, and social isolation.

“These are not just individual concerns, but national issues requiring collective action,” Felix stated.

He urged society to enhance its commitment to supporting older citizens through improved healthcare access and social services while creating opportunities for active aging and inclusion.

The President further stressed the importance of nurturing strong inter-generational relationships, allowing younger and older generations to learn from each other and contribute to more supportive communities.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, SLARP members made a monetary donation to the Marian Home as a symbol of goodwill and community support.

Looking forward, the Association invites all to participate in its upcoming Fun Games Day scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Mindoo Phillip Park.

In closing, Felix expressed optimism for the future of the Association, emphasizing the need for continued unity and purpose. He reaffirmed SLARP’s commitment to being a strong and consistent voice for retired persons, striving to create a Saint Lucia where every citizen is valued, respected, and empowered to live with dignity.

Congratulations to SLARP on this remarkable milestone, and may your legacy continue for many years to come!
