As part of the observance for French Engagement Week, the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) hosted a series of impactful French-focused engagements, reaffirming its commitment to internationalization, cultural exchange, and student development.
“At SALCC, we view French not just as a language, but as a powerful pathway to higher education, skills training, and meaningful careers across the region and beyond,” said Tracy Pilgrim-George, Director of Internationalization, Advancement, and Partnerships at SALCC.
The week featured three key initiatives: a high-level visit by French ambassadors and diplomatic representatives, the BIMER Student Exchange Programme, and the vibrant celebration of Francofête 2026.
A delegation of French ambassadors and partners attended a two-day conference aimed at strengthening ties between Saint Lucia and France, fostering meaningful dialogue on education, culture, and potential collaborations.

This engagement underscored SALCC’s growing role as a bridge between Saint Lucia and the wider global community. The BIMER Student Exchange Programme brought together students from Saint Lucia and Martinique, providing an immersive learning experience in the Blue Economy at Pointe Seraphine.
Partially funded by the French Government, the programme sought to enhance cooperation between Saint Lucia and Martinique while exposing students to emerging employment pathways in the maritime sector.
Participants explored non-traditional career options, including boat maintenance, maritime safety, and navigation. The second edition of SALCC’s Francofête offered an engaging cultural experience for over 120 students from both SALCC and invited secondary schools.
French students from St. Mary’s College, Entrepot Secondary, Castries Comprehensive, and Patricia D. James Secondary witnessed the talent of SALCC students as MCs, musicians, and performers.
Additionally, French delegates showcased attractive study opportunities available in French territories. The event was further enriched by the generous support from local hotel partners, who contributed food items and fostered a spirit of community collaboration.
“Our goal is to ensure our students are not limited by geography but are empowered by opportunity,” said Pilgrim-George. “Through initiatives like these, we equip them with the tools, exposure, and confidence to step into a wider world and succeed.”
