SAINT LUCIA CRUISE PORT AND CASTRIES CONSTITUENCY COUNCIL UPDATE VENDORS ON ARCADE REDEVELOPMENT TIMELINE

Saint Lucia Cruise Port (SLCP) in partnership with the Castries Constituency Council (CCC) hosted a project update meeting with the arcade vendors to review revised project timelines and discuss the way forward. The session focused on ensuring smooth operations during the redevelopment of the iconic Vendor’s Arcade.

Phase one, located on the site of the former fire station, is scheduled for completion by the end of April 2026, delivering 44 operational units. Phase two will involve the complete demolition and reconstruction of the remaining arcade, set to conclude by October 2026, in preparation for the upcoming 2026/2027 cruise season.

Geraldine Lendor-Gabriel, Mayor of Castries, outlined the allocation process for the 44 units, prioritizing reliability and consistent rental fee payments. Vendors not included in the initial 44 units will be temporarily displaced.

The redesigned arcade will introduce a clustering approach to enhance visitor experience, making it easier for shoppers to discover desired items. Vendors will now operate within five broad categories or clusters including Apparel and accessories, Crafts and artisan goods, Food and beverages, Specialty services and Souvenirs and gifts.

Within each cluster, vendors must stock at least 70% of the items related to their chosen category, with the remaining 30% at their discretion – for example, apparel vendors should offer seven apparel related items for every three alternative items of their choice. In addition, enhanced signage and improved wayfinding will make it easier to navigate the new facility, optimize space usage and deliver a world-class shopping experience for locals and visitors alike.

Available clusters in phase one include Apparel and Accessories, and Souvenirs and Gifts.

SLCP General Manager, Lancelot Arnold, reaffirmed SLCP’s commitment to the vendors’ success. “We are not just building a facility; we are creating opportunities to improve daily operations and increase revenue. SLCP will collaborate with Export Saint Lucia and other partners to connect vendors with local manufacturers and suppliers. We will also offer training opportunities in financial management, customer service and business operations.” Mr. Arnold emphasized product diversification, urging vendors to prioritize authentic Saint Lucian goods amid growing demand from both cruise passengers and on-island visitors.

Vendors raised concerns about rental fees, security measures and maintenance of the facility. Arcade management will remain under CCC oversight, with SLCP providing ongoing support to ensure the facility remains at premier destination standard.
