Saint Lucian citizens will have the opportunity to receive expert hand care medical treatment, thanks to collaboration between local health authorities and a foreign donor agency.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Nutrition, in partnership with Hand Help Inc., will host the second Hand Surgical Mission in Saint Lucia from March 29 to April 2. The Mission will take place at the Millennium Heights Medical Complex and St. Jude Hospital.

Hand Help Inc. is a charitable organization that has provided hand surgery care to children and adults worldwide for the past 25 years. The team consists of board-certified and licensed medical professionals, including plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, hand therapists, nurses, and surgical technicians, who volunteer their services for this mission.

All necessary medical supplies and surgical equipment will be provided by the agency for the mission. The services offered free of charge will cover a wide range of hand and upper extremity conditions in both children and adults.

This includes treatment for soft tissue and bone injuries, congenital anomalies, nerve palsies, burns, as well as elective conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger fingers, and carpometacarpal arthritis. Individuals who wish to be evaluated and treated by the Hand Help medical/surgical team should visit their nearest public health facility (Wellness Centre/Polyclinic/Community Hospital) to register for the mission.

Additionally, private practitioners can refer patients for management through a registration form that has been distributed to the Office of the Chief Medical Officer.

Those registered for the mission are required to be assessed and scheduled by the Hand Help Medical/Surgical team on Sunday, March 29, at the Owen King EU Hospital from 9 AM to 4 PM, or at St. Jude Hospital from 10 AM to 4 PM. Walk-ins and individuals who received surgical interventions previously and wish to be re-evaluated will also be accommodated.

Patients who had surgery under last year’s mission may use this opportunity to check their healing progress and discuss any necessary follow-up care. Please bring any diagnostic results or medical information to these visits.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Nutrition encourages the public with upper extremity or hand-related health concerns to take full advantage of this opportunity for specialist care.
