The Saint Lucia Association of Retired Persons (SLARP) proudly welcomed its 1000th member, Ms. Janes Aurelien, during its quarterly meeting held in mid-February 2026, at the Ti Rocher Multipurpose Centre.
Ms. Aurelien was warmly received by members and presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of this significant milestone in the Association’s history. Her induction marks continued growth and renewed momentum for the organization.
Reflecting on the Association’s accomplishments in 2025, President Mr. K. Patrick Felix noted a steady increase in membership. The year was marked by several notable activities, including overseas trips to Martinique, Panama and Cuba, which provided opportunities for fellowship and cultural exchange.
SLARP also strengthened its community engagement by serving as invigilators for the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College December examinations. Members received certificates upon completion of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training, underscoring the Association’s commitment to lifelong learning and digital empowerment. District coordinators were also established island-wide to ensure closer contact with members in various communities.
During Jounen Kwéyòl celebrations, SLARP signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Retirees of L’Association “L’Éclate des Raisiniers,” and members of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) participated in SLARP’s 40th Anniversary celebrations.
The year 2026 commenced with a strategic retreat for directors and invited participants to develop a three-year plan to guide the Association’s work. Mr. Felix indicated that discussions this year will include climate change and adaptation, among other key issues. Activities for 2026 will also include a return trip to Panama.
Looking ahead, the President expressed hope that membership will continue to grow beyond the 1000 member milestone. He also announced the return of the Variety Concert on 1st August and appealed to the public for its usual support.
Additional plans for the year include a Games Day at the grounds of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, a Health Fair with special focus on men’s health, renewed outreach to delinquent members, increased visits to sick and homebound members, and continued contributions to senior citizens’ homes. The Association has also established a Book Club and will continue its “Know Your Island” initiative, beginning with Choiseul.
With the welcoming of its 1000th member and an active year ahead, SLARP says it remains committed to enhancing the lives of retired persons throughout Saint Lucia.
